Casa Silvia

Casa Silvia is a small cottage attached to several other properties in little typical Tuscan hamlet of local residents called Valigondoli. On the other side of the hamlet there is a restaurant. The front of the cottage looks out onto a wonderful view of the Tuscan hills and valleys.
Crossing a gravel path in front of the villa there is a stone paved terrace which leads down several steps to a second terrace with a large barbeque, and furnished with table with chairs to dine al fresco, and an umbrella with sun-beds. On a lower level is the irregular shaped, prefabricated pool which is surrounded by a large wooden sun deck. There are fantastic views from this area.
Entering the villa Casa Silvia there is an open plan room with a white wooden ceiling and windows looking out to the views to the front of the villa. To one side of the room is a large fireplace, ideal for the cooler nights. Next to this are two wooden armchairs. In the centre of the room is a wooden table with four chairs.
Passing under an arch there is the small kitchen which is well equipped, and includes gas hobs, oven, fridge with separate freezer and dishwasher.
To the other side of the room is a double bedroom which can be set up as a twin, this must be requested when booking. The room has a large wardrobe and a window that provides plenty of light. It looks out to the front of the villa and the views beyond.
From the back of the lounge there are a few steps up into a corridor. Off this is a bedroom with a double metal bed, painted in a lovely green colour. In the room is a large wardrobe with mirrors and a wooden chest of drawers. The window opens up onto an internal courtyard surrounded by other houses. At the end of the hall is a small laundry and a bathroom with shower.
Casa Silvia is a simple villa with wonderful views.

Below the furnished terrace for dining al fresco there is the pool. It is located in a sunny corner of the property with a fantastic view of the Tuscan countryside over the olive trees and forest that surround Valigondoli. This is a great area from which to enjoy the Tuscan sunsets with a glass of Chianti.
The pool is an above ground, prefabricated pool. Around it is a lovely, large wooden sun deck. Surrounding the pool is a lovely, typical Tuscan olive grove on sloped grounds.

Nearest town
The villa is in a little hamlet where there is a restaurant, Trattoria Da Pordo, located at the opposite side. Mercatale is the nearest town with shops, restaurants and other amenities. It's approximately 6km away. Greve in Chianti, is a larger town with more choice, it is about 7km away on an unpaved road.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
