Castallare de' Sernigi is a prestigious Tuscan villa which was originally the home of a wealthy merchant in the 1400s, later it become a simple country home until it was bought by the present owners who restored it to its original glory.
The beautiful villa is part of a collection of 3 buildings, in one of these lives the owner. The villa has extensive grounds which include olive groves and vineyards typical of Tuscany. The large pool is located amidst olive trees providing a wonderful Tuscan atmosphere and pretty views of the softly rolling hills that surround the property.
Castellare de'Sernigi has several pretty courtyards and well maintained gardens providing guests with several places to sit and enjoy the warm Tuscan sun or relax in the shade of olive trees. The villa is furnished with wonderful antiques, many passed down through the owners family. It also has the original handmade terracotta stone floors and the first floor has the traditional Tuscan ceiling of wooden beams and terracotta tiles.
The entrance to the villa is into a large hall with antique wooden benches and a designer wooden table. On the other side of the entrance hall is the dining area which has a long wooden table and a large original fireplace which cannot be used.
To the back of the dining room there is the large professional kitchen. It has a large fridge/freezer, professional gas hobs, dishwasher and oven. There is also a microwave. From this room there is access to the garden. To one side of the kitchen there is a corridor which leads to a pantry.
From the corridor some stairs go up to a simple twin room with bathroom with shower. This is the simplest room of the house and is furnished with modern furniture and is therefore mainly recommended for staff or children. Also accessed from the ground floor is a cellar where the owner keeps the wine and olive oil produced from the estate, guests are able to help themselves and will pay for what they use.
On the ground floor there is a laundry room with washing machine. This floor is completed by a bedroom with twin beds that can be made into a double on request. There is an en-suite bathroom with tub and shower.
On the first floor the main living areas are found, there are two wonderfully spacious lounges. Both are comfortably furnished with good quality sofas and armchairs. One of them has large arched windows which provide a pretty view of the gardens.
The other lounge has a large typical stone fireplace which has the coat of arms of the Sernigi family who built the house. There is Sat TV, DVD player and a CD player.
On the first floor there are another 5 spacious bedrooms. All of which have beautiful wooden beam ceiling and ceiling fans. To the right of the living areas there is a single room which has a view of the villa gardens. In this room an extra bed can be provided. It has an en-suite bathroom with shower.
The white bedroom has a double (queen size) bed, it has a wonderful view of the hamlet church and the cypress trees which line the avenue. This room has an en-suite bathroom with shower.
The blue and white bedroom also has a double (queen size) bed with an en-suite bathroom with shower. From this room there are views over the main courtyard.
The yellow bedroom has a double bed (king size) and an en-suite bathroom with shower. From the bedroom there are wonderful views over the garden and swimming pool onto the hills beyond.
Finally the yellow and green bedroom has twin beds which can be made into a double on request. The views from this room are over the villa courtyard.
All the bedrooms are well furnished with antiques and good quality orthopaedic mattresses. All twin rooms can be made into doubles on request, this must be requested when booking otherwise the villa will be as described.
On arrival the owner will prepare a welcome dinner for guests, this is included in the price. Please when booking provide your expected arrival time.
Included in the price is 2 hours of maid service on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Internet WI-FI is available in the villa for free. Please bring your own laptop.
Air conditioning in the whole villa is available for free
Guests can help themselves to the wine and olive oil produced from the estate and will pay for what they use.

Pool Info
The pool is located in the extensive gardens about 50 meters from the villa. It is reached by passing through an olive grove providing it with plenty of privacy. The pool area is surrounded by pretty roses and a wonderful view through the olive groves. Near the pool are changing rooms which include a small fridge for drinks.
The area is furnished with wood and canvas sunbeds and comfortable chairs. To one side of the pool there is a gazebo furnished with a table and chairs to relax in the shade.
The pool is 15x7 meters and 1.2 to 1.4 meters deep. There is a metal ladder into it. The pool is open from mid-May to mid-September.
Nearest town
Tavernelle, is 1.5km away where there are some restaurants and a supermarket. In the town Poggibonsi, approximately 15km away, there is a large supermarket and wide selection of shops. An excellent restaurant that we recommend you is La Fattoria, which is located just before Tavernelle.

What were the highlights of your holiday? the amazing house was topped of with Martha's sublime cooking. The surpise 500 Touring Club of Italy day trip I'd arrnaged for all involved winery visit, lunch and driving in and around Firenze and the Tuscan hills in classic Fiat 500's
What was your overall impression of the accommodation? Better than described, the photo's do not do it justice and also fail to conveys Enzo's fabulous hospitality and enthusiasm for both home and region
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Only clarity about that daily costs for cooking as we'd misinterpeted the explanation, having said that we would definitely still have a Martha cook for us next time!!!

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
