Papavero at Le Rocche di Valiano

Papavero is a pretty villa on two floors in the main building of Le Rocche di Valiano, where there are another 8 villas. It is entered from the central courtyard which is paved in terracotta.
The villa garden is to the back of the property and looks out towards the Chianti hills. The garden is furnished with a table and chairs for six. This outdoor eating area is shaded by a metal pergola with cane.
Inside the villa there is a long room with a comfortable double sofa and a simple sofabed around a glass coffee table. The other side of the room has a wooden table which can be opened up to seat 6 people. Around the table are four stylish chairs. To one side is a sideboard with TV. From here there is a low arched door that leads out to the garden, which is down some metal steps.
Off the dining area is a separate kitchen that has a large fridge with freezer, dishwasher, gas hobs and a small table top oven. In the room is a table with a single chair. Next to the kitchen and completing the ground floor is a bathroom with shower.
Travertine stairs go up to the first floor and sleeping area. At the top of the stairs there is a second bathroom which has a bath tub and handheld shower with no curtain. The first double bedroom is a large spacious room furnished with a nice wooden double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers, in one corner is a single sofabed.
The second bedroom is also a double, it is a smaller room. It also has a pretty wooden double bed, wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Like the other bedroom there are pale terracotta tiles on the floor and the ceiling is in the tradition Tuscan style with wooden beams and terracotta tiles.
The double beds cannot be made into twins. The villa cannot accommodated more than 4 people, however should a twin be required the sofabed can be used.
There is a small extra charge for pets.

Papavero at Le Rocche di Valiano

Le Rocche di Valiano is a lovely typical Tuscan farm estate that has been carefully restored into a beautiful property of 9 villas plus the owner's residence. It has a fantastic position about 6km from Siena in the Chianti hills, providing it with excellent access to the city and the main routes to all the Tuscan sights.
On one side there is a large pool in full sun. It is surrounded by sun-beds and umbrellas. Between the pool and the rental villas there is the owner's villa.
From all around the property there are wonderful views of the rolling Chianti hills with winding cypress lined roads and dotted with little estates and villages. The hills are covered with vineyards, olive groves and some forests.
At Le Rocche di Valiano there is a small reception where clients can obtain information and assistance. Due to the layout the villa gardens are not seclude however each villa has it's own private garden in this well maintained hamlet.
Pool Info
The pool is located to the opposite end of the property from the car park. It is positioned below the owner's villa, in a lovely lawn surrounded by incredible views.
There are plenty of sun-beds shaded by umbrellas. It's the perfect place to relax after a day sightseeing. To one side there are roman steps to enter while the other side has metal steps. The pool is 12x6 meters and open from May to September
Nearest town
Siena is the nearest town. Within about 6km there are shops, pharmacy, banks and restaurants in the outer suburbs. The city centre is about 8km away. However within about 5km there is a restaurant.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
