Casa Gisella is reached via the main square of the hamlet. The front door leads into a small entrance lobby which has a door to the left leading to a ground floor cloakroom with WC and basin. Directly ahead of the main entrance you will find the kitchen/dining area, which is well equipped with fitted units along one wall with oven, gas hob, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. To one side there is a traditional wooden dining table and six chairs.
To the right a brick archway takes you through to the lounge, which has been comfortably furnished with sofa, armchair, flatscreen TV with some satellite channels and a DVD player. The villa has the traditional Tuscan terracotta tiled floors and tiled and beamed ceilings throughout. There are large glass doors opening from both the kitchen/diner and the lounge out onto a paved terrace which runs across the rear of the property. This is a great spot to dine ‘al fresco’ or relax with a glass of the local wine enjoying the fantastic views across the countryside.
Stairs from the lounge area lead up to the first floor where there is a bathroom with full size bath with handheld shower, WC, bidet and basin. Next door is the first of the two bedrooms which has a double bed, a large wardrobe and Juliet balcony. The second bedroom is further along the corridor and this also has a double bed, a large wardrobe and Juliet balcony.
From the garden and terrace areas you have fantastic views across the countryside to the village of Montisi.

Podere Ampella gives you the chance to live the relaxed Tuscan lifestyle in the idyllic setting of this exceptional hilltop hamlet overlooking the wonderful Val d’Orcia landscape, a landscape so unique that UNESCO has listed it as a world heritage site. This is the perfect location to relax and unwind, where you can choose to do as much or as little as you wish.
This newly built hamlet has a collection of eleven privately owned villas and apartments finished to a very high standard. The hamlet has been designed in the traditional Tuscan style using local materials and the typical architectural style.
All the properties are fully furnished and well equipped; each has its own private terrace or garden and two of the villas have their own private pool. The shared pool has a paved surround furnished with loungers and parasols and is set in a stunning position overlooking the surrounding countryside.
Podere Ampella hamlet is positioned between the historic towns of San Giovanni d’Asso and Montisi where there are plenty of restaurants, shops and banks. The hamlet is ideally situated for exploring Tuscany with the cities of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa and Lucca within easy reach, or venture over the border into Umbria to visit the historic cities of Assisi, Orvieto and Perugia.

The shared pool is located at the rear of the hamlet, where it has commanding views over the valley below. The pool is rectangular in shape and has a paved surround which is furnished with sun loungers and parasols.
The pool measure 12.5 metres x 8 metres and has a constant depth of 1.5 metres.Access is via ladder at one end. Pool towels are provided for an extra cost per week.Opoen from end of May to mid September.
Nearest town
San Giovanni D’Asso is a delightful hilltop town only 3kms from Ampella Hamlet. Dating back to medieval times the village surrounds the walls of a twelfth century castle. Here you will find traditional Tuscan restaurants and shops selling the local produce. The town boasts the only truffle museum in Italy, as well as hosting an annual truffle festival in November each year. There are also two important churches; the Romanesque church, San Giovanni Battista, and San Pietro in Villare. The picturesque Tuscan town of Montisi is 4kms from Ampella Hamlet. In August each year there is the annual jousting competition “Giostra di Simone” which sees many of the townsfolk dress up in medieval costume.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
