Villa Lapo

Nestled amongst the vineyards, with views of the wonderful surrounding Tuscan countryside is Villa Lapo. The villa, located in the centre of the owners' 400 acre estate, is of modern design, in the style of Richard Neutra (a student of Frank Lloyd Wright). It was built using local materials and is reached via a private cypress tree lined drive.
The pool is to one side of the ground floor terrace with four steps leading down to the paved area surrounding the pool which is furnished with sun loungers and umbrellas. There is a laurel hedge on three sides making this a very private space.
The property is arranged over two floors with an integral double garage and a separate apartment where the housekeeper lives. The beautiful grounds are well maintained with many mature trees and shrubs.
Outside a paved terrace wraps around three sides of the house, so you can follow the movement of the sun throughout the day! There are several seating areas dotted around and a large outdoor dining table and chairs near to the where the barbeque is situated.
From the terrace you have wonderful views over the surrounding Tuscan countryside and the nearby vineyard. There is a second dining table and chairs for 8 people on the pool side of the terrace.
The large ground floor living space has exposed stone walls and is very light and airy due to one wall consisting of floor to ceiling windows with sliding doors that open onto the terrace (over 35 meters long).
The spacious lounge is comfortably furnished with plenty of sofas and armchairs to relax in. There is also an open fireplace and a piano. Next to the lounge area is a separate den which is where the TV, DVD and CD player are located.
An opening to one side of the lounge leads through into the dining room which again has exposed stone walls and floor to ceiling windows along two walls. There is an antique oval wooden dining table which comfortably seats ten. To one side of the dining area is the breakfast room with a further table and six chairs.
The kitchen adjoins the breakfast room and has plenty of storage space and work surfaces. There is a built in oven with separate gas hobs, a dishwasher, microwave oven, fridge with freezer section and a separate pantry.
From the kitchen there is a door which leads into the garage, the laundry room and accesses the apartment where the two (very discreet) housekeepers live.
Stairs from the lounge lead up to the first floor where the six bedrooms and four bathrooms are located. There are two exterior balconies, one on either side of the upper floor, which can be accessed via large floor to ceiling sliding doors from five out of the six bedrooms.
There are five double bedrooms and one room with a single bed suitable for a child. All the rooms are very light and are comfortable and furnished with antique and modern furniture.
Four out of the five double bedrooms can be made into twin bedded rooms if required, please state at the time of booking how you would like the rooms configured.
The four bathrooms located on the first floor are arranged in between the bedrooms so that each bedroom has easy access to a bathroom. All of the bathrooms have baths with hand held showers, bidets, basins and WC.
An attractive spacious modern villa with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
A very friendly small family lives in the apartement above the garages but will respect the clients privacy. They are the housekeepers of Villa Lapo and are very welcoming and hospitable and as they have their own entrance, you will hardly notice them.

The pool is rectangular in shape and has a paved terrace which is furnished with sun loungers, parasols and benches. There is a hedge surrounding the pool on three sides, the fourth side leads up the terrace around the house making this a very private area.
The swimming pool measures 7 metres by 15 metres and is accessed via a ladder into the shallow end. The depth of the pool is 1.40 metres increasing to 2.20 metres at its deepest point. The pool is open from May 15 until September 30.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
