Villa San Michele, San Sano - Siena
Private Pool
8 people - 3 Bathroom
The property was originally home to the local landowner, and there have been various dwellings on this site since the eleventh century. In the twelfth century the ruling landlords of the whole location, the Mazzalombardi family, fell out of favour with Frederico 1st who confiscated their property and gave it to the Ricasoli family who also owned the Castello di Brolio near Gaiole in Chianti, which is well worth a visit. Nowadays things are much quieter, and the Villa San Michele is a great place to stay, ideal for large family groups, looking for space, in a good location for visiting the local historical sights.

The large swimming pool is located down a short flight of steps from the villa surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. The paved area around the pool has large planted terracotta urns, a shower and plenty of sun loungers. Due to the elevated position of the property the pool has panoramic views over the Tuscan hills and countryside.

Villa San Michele is a large villa set in its own private grounds near to the villages of Lecchi in Chianti and San Sano. Both villages have grocery stores and San Sano has a well known restaurant 'La Grotta della rana'. It is possible to walk to both the villages and the restaurant is approximately 1km from the villa. The larger town of Gaiole in Chianti 8km away has a supermarket, bank, post office, pharmacy and restaurants.

Outside the mature well stocked gardens wrap around the house. There is a covered loggia next to the external stairs which has table and chairs for dining ‘al fresco’.

A flight of stone steps lead up to the front entrance, which opens directly into a large stately hall with high beamed ceilings and tiled floor.

An enormous inglenook style fireplace dominates the room, and there are windows at both ends, and a large wooden dining table and chairs. All the main living accommodation is on the first floor leading off from the main hall.

To the right near the fireplace is the kitchen, which is fully furnished with electric oven, separate electric hobs, a microwave oven, double sink and large free standing fridge/freezer. There is plenty of storage space and a large pantry.

Also to the right of the hall on the opposite side of the fireplace is a small lounge, comfortably furnished with sofas, TV and DVD player.

To the left of the hall runs a wide corridor decorated with planted terracotta urns. There is a ceramic radiator which is a feature of the heating system standing at the far end of the corridor.

The first room on the left is bedroom one, this is a large room with high beamed ceilings and tiled floors. There is an ornate ironwork double bed with large matching wardrobe and chest of drawers. There is an ensuite shower room which bedroom two also has access to. The window overlooks the pool area and has views of the gardens and countryside.

Bedroom two is a very pretty room; again with beamed ceilings and tiled floors, it has twin wrought iron beds and painted furniture to match. There is access to an ensuite bathroom with shower, shared with bedroom one. This would be an ideal arrangement for a family with two children to stay in these two rooms.

Bedroom three is another large double room with beamed ceilings and tiled floors. There is an intricate wrought iron double bed, large wardrobe and matching furniture. There is no ensuite with this room, but directly opposite the doorway there is a small bathroom with shower. Please note that with bedrooms one, two and three, they all have two small steps up to each of the rooms

Bedroom four is on the right-hand side of the hallway and does not have any steps up to the entrance. This is a large airy room with tiled floors and beamed ceilings; it has a wooden sleigh bed (130x190) and matching furniture. There is also a private ensuite bathroom with shower.

Downstairs (accessed via the garden) there is a further lounge area which has unusual domed brickwork ceilings and is comfortably furnished with sofas, chairs and an open fireplace.

Two archways separate the lounge from another dining room which is smaller and more intimate than the grand entrance hall dining area.

Next to the lounge is a small study with writing desk, chair, sofa and bookcase. These three rooms are very cool in summer and provide a comfortable retreat during the heat of the day, whilst still being close to the gardens and pool area.

A well renowned restaurant 'La Grotta della rana' 1km from the villa.

A great villa for large family groups, or families travelling together.
Beautiful mature gardens with stunning views.

The villa owners have advised us that although they will accept children under seven years of age they would prefer not to because of the steep external entrance staircase and the unfenced pool area.
