Villa Solata
Location address: Solata - Arezzo
Villa Solata sits on the border of Chianti and Valdarno, both regions are famed for their beautiful countryside and great wines. It is an ideal base for exploring the region with Arezzo and Cortona 40 minutes away and even Florence and Siena can easily be reached within 60 to 90 minutes.

The large swimming pool is located at the rear of the property and is reached via stone steps at the side of the house. The relaxing pool area has loungers, chairs and a covered area providing some shade. From here there are great views over the Tuscan countryside and the extensive private grounds.

Formerly home to a Bishop and Solata's 'casa podronale' the villa has been fully restored, retaining many of the original features. Surrounded by acres of private garden including an orchard and an olive grove – this really is a very special place to stay.

Entrance to the villa is through a grand doorway into the hall which has patterned tiled flooring and a marble staircase on the right hand side. To the left is the downstairs bathroom with full sized bath and handheld shower.

Straight ahead and to the left doors lead into the spacious L shaped lounge/diner. This is a bright room with beautiful tiled floors, sofas, digital TV and two sets of double doors leading on to the large terrace.

The terrace has dining table and chairs and great views of the garden and countryside.

The dining room is located at the other end of the room and is adjacent to the kitchen. Here another set of double doors lead out onto the smaller terrace at the rear of the property. This is also furnished with table and chairs.

The large fully furnished kitchen has a built in oven, separate gas hobs, double sink, dishwasher and a fridge/freezer. There is also a large walk in larder.

The marble staircase leads up to the first floor landing, which has tiled flooring. At the top of the stairs double doors open onto a ‘juliet’ balcony above the front entrance. The bedroom at the front right hand side of the villa has wooden floors and an antique brass double bed.

The second bathroom with shower, is situated between the two bedrooms on the right of the property. The bedroom at the rear of the villa on the right has wooden floors, an ironwork double bed, painted wardrobe and its own 'juliet' balcony.

In between the two rear bedrooms is a further lounge space, in which to relax, with chairs and a huge open fireplace and a bookcase with a selection of books.

The fourth bedroom at the front left hand side of the property has a wooden double sleigh bed with matching wardrobe. All bedrooms have two windows each, and all have views of the countryside, gardens or both.

Great location for exploring the Tuscany region.
Local towns with markets nearby.

Salt water swimming pool.

Internet WI-FI available in the villa for free. Please bring your own laptop.

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs?

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs?

Overall impression: Villa Solata is delightful. Everything was beyond our expectations.  The kind of home that one would enjoy owning in Tuscany.
Highlights: Although we able to travel the wine road, sampled and purchased from small and large vintnors, visit Siena, Montepulcino, Pienza, and a number of other hill towns... the highlight, frankly, was our seat atop the mountain at Solata.  We canceled some of our tour plans to sit by the pool and enjoy maybe a few too many of the local wines.  The kitchen was great, we had access to great food and we feasted under the stars most evenings.
Unpleasant surprises: As I said, the road......that being said, the location and the view made the destination worth the drive.

Overall impression: excellent
Highlights: stunning views, great place, good company, excellent food
Unpleasant surprises: biting bugs (especially after swimming or running), but not much you can do about that. There was also a bit of a mix up over the deposit and payment, but we ended up sorting that out with the neighbours over a glass of wine or two. Oh aye, it rained a bit, but again c'est la vie..

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
